Biography

After an initial experience at the Bar of Fribourg, Vincent Brulhart joined the private insurance industry, where he held various positions in Switzerland: Director of Claims at Union Suisse Assurances, he was then responsible for setting up an operational organisation for the Generali Assurances Group; he also helped to set up the Swiss subsidiary of the Europ Assistance Group. He then held a number of positions at Swiss level in the General Management of the Generali Group (Switzerland) Holding SA, including: Chief Claims Officer, Chief Product and Actuarial Officer and Chief Non-Life Officer. He was also Chairman of the Board of Fortuna, a legal protection insurance company. He has attended a number of management training courses, some of them abroad, and has led major restructurings (insurance company mergers, redundancy plans, company transfers). 

Vincent Brulhart holds a venia legendi from the University of St. Gallen for private and commercial law, private international law and international procedure, and is a professor of insurance law at the Universities of Lausanne and Geneva. He has taken part in various legislative consultations, including as a member of the Federal Council’s committee of experts responsible for a draft total revision of the Insurance Contracts Act (VVG). A former chairman of the claims managers’ commission of the Swiss Insurance Association (SIA), he is currently involved in a number of scientific committees, including as a member of the committee of the Swiss Society of Liability and Insurance Law and as a member of the editorial board of the HAVE/REAS journal. He was a member of the Vaud bar exam commission and contributes to the training programmes for FSA specialist lawyers in liability and insurance law. He was involved in setting up the fundraising committee for Swiss Solidarity (TSR). On the military front, he was a unit commander in the mountain infantry, with the rank of captain, then a staff officer with the rank of major.
